CRONICA NICOLA TESLA (1856 / 1943) 

Nikola Tesla was born in Smijlian, Austrian Empire now Croatia in July 9/10, 1856. 

When he was 3 years old, he noticed sparks while stroking his cat's back. He asked his father, who explained that it was the same phenomenon that occurs in trees during a thunderstorm—electricity. From that moment until his death, Tesla dedicated himself to solving the mystery of electricity. 

At 17, Tesla contracted cholera, and, almost at death's door, his father promised him that if he recovered, he would send him to the best engineering school. After recovering and joining the army in 1875, Tesla began his studies at the Polytechnic University of Graz, Austria. 

In 1881, he traveled to Vienna, where he worked for the National Telephone Company. In 1884, he worked for Thomas Alva Edison's company. They had differences regarding the generation of electrical power; Edison advocated direct current, and Tesla advocated alternating current. In 1886, Tesla founded his own company, Tesla Electric Light & Manufacturing, with little success due to limited investor support. Between 1886 and 1887, he worked as a laborer in New York to survive and earn money for his next project. In 1887, he built a brushless induction motor powered by alternating current. In 1893, Tesla worked with Westinghouse to develop a project to supply electricity to the city of Buffalo by harnessing the power of the Niagara River Falls. In 1898, he presented his invention, a miniature radio-controlled boat, to the first Electrical Exhibition held at Madison Square Garden in New York. 

 Nikola Tesla died on January 7, 1943, in a New York hotel room, at the age of 86. Tesla was an excelent engenieer an admirable inventor, his contributions to technology are invaluable.
